Mission Statement

The Finger Lakes Home Builders and Remodelers Association, affiliated with the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) and NYSBA (New York State Builders Association) is a non-profit professional trade organization devoted to the betterment of the building and remodeling industry in the Finger Lakes area.

This is achieved through promoting high ethical standards, providing networking opportunities along with educational programs, and acting as a government liaison for the benefit of our members and the general public at large.

2014 William Morehouse Scholarship

It’s back to school time and the NYSBA REF is gearing up for the 2014 William Morehouse Scholarship Program!

In 2013, our joint venture with participating locals presented eleven scholarships to deserving students pursuing a career in our industry. Please help to encourage students to apply for this scholarship. We would love to seeallof the locals sponsoringat least onestudent for the 2014 program.

As in the past, we will be notifying a wide range of education centers and associations across New York State about the scholarship - our date to have the scholarship announcement reach the schools isOctober 25, 2013. We will be mailing brochures to 455 schools, as well as emailing flyers to our database of contacts (currently over 8,600).

The application and brochure are now available online will be included in the upcoming monthly newsletters.

Deadlines for the 2014 program are as follows:
Deadline for student to get application to local HBA: April 11, 2014
Application Postmark Deadline to NYSBA REF: April 25, 2014

Scholarship Process:

1.Student receives information about WMS program

2.Student contacts local HBA for sponsorship and schedules interview

3.Student brings forms to HBA for interview

4.HBA interviews student and decides if they will sponsor them for WMS, or not

5.HBA sends interview forms and “commitment to match” form to the REF directly(so student does not read interview questions/answers) no later than April 25, 2014

6.Student mails their application, forms, picture, etc. to the REF no later than April 25, 2014

7.NYSBA REF will receive submissions and match up student’s package with HBA’s package to start the reviewing process

8.A conference call with the Review Committee is scheduled a week following the deadline

9.Review Committee meets and makes recommendations to submit to the NYSBA REF Board for the May Board meeting

10.Recommendations are reviewed at the May meeting and voted on

11.NYSBA REF notifies all HBAs and Recipients of the decisions

12.NYSBA REF mails checks directly to the HBA for distribution at the meeting/event chosen by the HBA for scholarship presentations

13.NYSBA REF Regional Director, or other REF Board Member, attends HBA event to award check to recipient on behalf of the REF Board of Directors

14.NYSAB REF sends Press Releases to HBAs for their regional papers
